Effects Racism has on Othello
Effects of Racism had on Othello in the bookIn the book, Othello makes quite a few monologues, but they don't really entail what the impact racism had on him or even when he was a child. The most Othello went into depth about any type of treatment expressed toward him was when he was attempting to defend himself and profess his love for Desdemona when he explained how he was sold into slavery, and had to buy his way to freedom. No thoughts or any further emotion was expressed within these two lines, as the sole purpose for him explaining this story is to convey his love for Desdemona to Brabantio.

Effects that Racism had on Othello in AnalysisAlthough, Othello doesn't show much emotion when it comes to him talking about his past. He doesn't bring up any memories of any times when he felt he had been oppressed. It is a reasonable conclusion to state that Othello is very intelligent and is for sure very aware of the discrimination brought against him due to the color of his skin. Othello, as he had stated, had a harsh childhood, and was forced to make rash decisions at an early age, assuming now that he is a lieutenant, he doesn't feel the need to display much emotion about any situation regarding oppression. If he were to speak on it, who would listen? Who would care? Most importantly, who would understand? It's been made very apparent that the not-so subtle racist remarks against Othello in the book, were made VERY casually, and half the time weren't made to be intentionally hurtful.
