Summary of Othello The play of Othello is based in Venice, the main character is Othello, who is known as "The Moor", who is also the Lieutenant of the Venetian army with superb military intelligence. Othello has made it clear that he wants a relationship with Desdemona, and eventually marries her, despite conflict with her father. Apart from this, Cassio is promoted to Othello's second in command. In a rage of envy, Iago goes through many successful steps in order to get Cassio fired. Once this is eventually done, Iago confesses his hatred for Othello, and attempts to manipulate him to make him think that Desdemona is cheating on him with Cassio. Eventually, Iago attempts to convince Roderigo (who is in love with Desdemona) that he is manipulating all these people for him. He then persuades Roderigo to kill Cassio. Instead, Cassio stabs Roderigo and then Iago stabs Cassio, to finish the job. Othello hears of Othello attempting to kill Cassio and Othello kills Desdemona for her infidelity. Emilia tell Othello that Desdemona was faithful the whole time and that he was manipulated. Othello wants Iago to be executed, as the grief and guilt overcomes Othello, he kills himself.
